形態特徵

A glabrous shrub, up to 5 m high; branchlet angled when young, sometimes reddish and slender.
Leaves simple, alternate, broadly elliptic-ovate to elliptic, 1–3.5 cm long, 0.7–2 cm broad, papery or chartaceous, the lateral veins 4–6 on each side, the apex rounded, obtuse or emarginate, the base round to acute, sometimes slightly oblique, entire; petiole 2–3 mm long; stipules small, triangular-ovate or lanceolate.
Flowers axillary. Staminate flowers: about 1–3 in axillary fascicles; calyx gamosepalous, shortly 6-lobed, not spreading, with a narrow mouth, ovoid-globose-turbinate, fleshy; stamens 3, filaments connate into a column; pistillode and disc absent; pedicels 4–6 mm long. Pistillate flowers: solitary in axils; calyx-lobes 6, campanulate or cap-shaped, less accrescent (1–3 mm across) in fruit or not; ovary 3-celled, truncate or depressed; pedicels 3–5 mm long in fruit
Fruit a succulent red berry, globose, 4–7 mm across, the apex lengthened or depressed, sometimes on a distinct gynophore (1–6 mm long) or not. Seeds usually 6, trigonous.
